Water Polo Wins First Match in California

Making its first trip across the country, Brunswick shook off any jet lag from Thursday en route to a commanding 17-3 win over Lynbrook (San Jose) on Friday in the opening round of the Freeman Memorial Tournament, held at Monte Vista High School in northern California.

Playing in an outdoor pool, the Bruins (14-2) got an early goal from Thacher Scannell before Lynbrook knotted the game at one later in the first quarter. Nico Apostolides added a goal to give Brunswick a lead that the Bruins would not relinquish.

The Bruins posted a 4-0 run in the second quarter to take a 6-1 lead, as Apostolides netted two more goals for Brunswick.

Holding the five-goal lead to start the second half, Brunswick pulled away to secure the 17-3 victory.

The Bruins return to the pool on Saturday, facing the host school, Monte Vista, in the morning before a second game against the Harker School in the afternoon.

Brunswick scoring:
Nico Apostolides (3), Gavin Molloy (3), Thacher Scannell (2), Kyle Yelensky (2), Danny Taylor (2), Tate Robinson (2), Peter Mullen (1), Jake Charney (1), Tim Saunders (1).
