Upper School Math Team Captures State Championship

The Upper School Math Team placed first in the Connecticut State Association of Math League competition on April 4, outscoring every school not just in the small school division but in the medium- and large-school divisions as well.

Brunswick placed first in the small-school division with 100 points out of a possible 126, with second-place Hopkins earning 67 points.

The highest placed school in the medium-school division earned 70 points.

Among large schools, teams have eight students as opposed to six for the small and medium divisions. The highest scoring team among large schools earned 98 points.

“So, Brunswick won the state overall, by a clear margin,” said coach Michael Allwood.

Qualifying through their performance in five math leagues across the state, 42 public and private schools competed in the state match.

Students who took part were Ajay Bagaria ’24, Thomas Ewald ’24, Subir Garg ’25, Vikram Sarkar ’26, Andrew Tu ’24, and Jack Whitney-Epstein ’26.

Tu and Sarkar earned perfect scores of 18 out of 18 points.
