Bruins Best Radnor High School on Cosby Field

On another cold, wet afternoon yesterday at Cosby Field, the Brunswick lacrosse team met their second regular-season opponent, downing the Maroons of Radnor High School (Radnor, Pa.) 11-5 and bringing their record to 2-0.

Similar to Saturday’s game against St. Sebastian’s, the first quarter presented two teams that were well-prepared for a competitive contest. While Syracuse-bound Payton Anderson put the Bruins up just three minutes into the game, Radnor answered with an extra-man goal, making it 1-1 midway through the quarter.

After that, Brunswick dominated the rest of the quarter, possessing the ball for several minutes before Graham Burchill made it 2-1 thanks to a physical groundball and assist by Anderson.

Before the end of the half, the Bruins would score three more goals after several offensive possessions. The first came at the 6:43 mark of the second quarter, as senior attackman Casey Quinson (Colgate) netted an impressive low-to-high shot, making it 3-2. The second followed less than three minutes later, as junior Sean Ryan put one in off of two beautiful passes by Quinson and Anderson. Radnor scored the next, but the Bruins answered shortly after with a hard sweeping dodge and shot by Hudson Hausmann (Virginia), bringing the game to 5-2 going into the second half.

Radnor would go on to score one goal in the third quarter and two in the second, but that would not be enough, as the Bruins would score six more times in the second half with goals from Ryan, Lucas Garcia, Quinson, Hausmann, and Burchill, ending the game with a final of 11-5.

Impressive offensive play was complemented by a very tough defense led by seniors Luke Hublitz (Virginia), Robert Plath (Georgetown), and goalie Tucker Williams (Brown). And, junior Aiden Diaz-Matos had an outstanding performance, going 17/18 at the face-off X.

The Bruins play their next game at Deerfield Academy this Saturday at 3 p.m.
