Bruins Rally in Third for Victory

Brunswick roared back in the third period with four unanswered goals to snatch a victory from the hands of Salisbury by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday evening at Hartong Rink.

The Bruins trailed 2-0 after two despite hanging right with the Crimson Knights – so the message going into the third was to stick with it and not give up belief that this tilt was within reach.

And, as this team has done all season, 'Wick kept pushing and found a way to break through early in the final frame on a goal by senior a-cap Jake Minella, who showed some silky hands in front of the crease before finishing off a rebound on a shot by sophomore d-man Jack McCullough.

After a big PK, the Bruins got back to work and tied it with 7:13 remaining on a snipe from senior co-captain Sean Gibbons from in between the face-off dots – 2-2 and the bench was humming.

It would take only 56 seconds before Gibbons found linemate senior Brendan Giles for the go-ahead tally – all of a sudden, it was 3-2 Brunswick with 6:19 left.

Salisbury pulled its goalie on the early side, but Giles picked off a centering feed and found the middle of the net from near his defensive crease (as only goal scorers can do) and 'Wick led 4-2.

The Crimson Knights didn't quit and brought things back to one with 46 seconds to play but never threatened to get the equalizer and the home team ran out the clock with the puck 200 feet away.

Senior Will Baker was his ever-steady self and held the fort between the pipes.

Gunn on the road on Friday.
