JV Hockey Wins in Overtime at King

With a lean defensive crew of four skaters, Brunswick finished strong in OT after letting King tie it up at three just five minutes into the third period – ultimately earning a 4-3 win on Wednesday.

Brunswick was up 3-2 after two, although the game never felt that close. One of King's goals careened off the glass behind the goal, hitting James Cragin in the numbers before falling into the net, and Luke Dougherty put away a loose puck just after an early whistle in the first minute of the second stanza. The Bruins controlled the puck through the vast majority of play but had difficulty finishing chances in the slot and capitalizing on odd-man rushes.

Ben Taylor had another solid performance with two goals, and Ryan Kaseta cashed in a rebound as well. George Karayiannis, Brooks Simonds, Luke Hublitz, Miller Yonce, and Luke Dougherty all contributed assists, and Teddy Cooney again earned MVP honors with an assist and the game-winning-goal in OT. Cooney was dynamic on both ends of the ice throughout the game. It was fitting that he added the finishing touch to the contest.

Next for the Bruins is Darien High School on Monday at Hartong Rink – 5 p.m. puck-drop.
