JV Puck Outlasts Iona Prep

In their first home game since late November, the Bruins hit the ice a bit too confident against a young and scrappy Iona Prep team – but ultimately prevailed by a final score of 9-4.

The visiting Gaels caught the Bruins off guard early, and were happy with just a one-goal differential after the first period.

After regrouping during the intermission, the Bruins didn't take long to get the scoring going, as Michael Contino put the Bruins up 3-1 just 59 seconds into the second. It was the first of two Cooney-to-Contino goals on the evening.

The Bruins built the lead to four goals pretty quickly thereafter, but the Gaels kept working, taking advantage of odd-man rushes and intercepted passes in the Bruins' end. The score was 6-3 Brunswick after two.

The goal for the final period was to keep the goals against at three and to stay out of the box, but the Gaels  netted another early in the third, shrinking the Brunswick lead back to two. It was all Brunswick from there though, with Ben Taylor sealing the win with under two seconds left in the contest.

It was a game with many lessons learned, but highlights include some great saves by James Cragin, and first goals of the season for three players – Ryan Kaseta, Jack Konzerowsky, and George Karayiannis.

Next up is a rematch against King's varsity squad at Stamford Twin Rinks on Wednesday – 4 p.m. puck-drop.
