'Wick Returns to Hartong, Defeats Upper Canada College
Brunswick began the new year on home ice – for the first time this season – and shut out the visitors from Upper Canada College, 1-0, in front of a packed house at Hartong Rink on Friday evening.
The game was one of those that never quite felt in jeopardy for the Bruins, but it still remained scoreless after two periods – despite numerous opportunities and a substantial advantage in the shot count for 'Wick (34-17 in total over 54 minutes).
Not until 2:36 into the final frame did senior Brendan Giles break through on a 4 v 4 situation that saw sophomore d-man Jack McCullough keep a puck in at the point and push it down the half wall to Sean Gibbons, who fed his linemate alone in the slot for the only tally of the contest.
Will Baker saved his best for last in the final five minutes, when the Blues made a push and earned some high quality chances that the senior netminder turned away with confidence to preserve the win.
The same two teams will be back at it on Saturday at noon.
