Bruins Advance to Tournament Finals

In a back-and-forth hockey game – one in which Brunswick never trailed – the Bruins outlasted St. Andrew's College (Aurora, Ontario) by a score of 5-3 to advance to the finals of the St. Sebastian's Tournament in Needham, Mass., on Saturday evening.

Senior co-captain Luke Drury set the tone early in the first half (and he would keep it up for 45 minutes) by driving wide and getting one by the St. Andrew's goaltender to give the Bruins the lead.

After the Saints tied things up on a goal by their 6'7'' forward, who is projected to be selected in the next NHL Draft, senior Brendan Giles sent 'Wick to the locker room with a 2-1 advantage after knocking home a rebound on a 2-v-1 rush with fellow classmate Sean Gibbons.

In the second half, St. A's scored a SHG to knot the game once again before senior Ryan Wachtel put the Americans back in front on a beautiful backdoor PPG – the primary assist going to Giles.

The Saints would tally a PPG of their own before Drury buried another Bruins power-play goal from inside the crease with 7:49 to play – 4-3 Brunswick on what proved to be the game winner.

Giles iced it with a spin-around wrister from his own defensive zone into the empty net.

Senior Will Baker was outstanding in between the pipes for the third consecutive game, with 32 saves in all to help Brunswick improve to 4-1-2 on the season.

It's on to the finals tomorrow against the highly touted hosts from St. Seb's. Puck drop is 3 p.m. at Henry Lane Rink.
