After watching a well-deserved varsity win over Kent, the JV players hit the ice ready to bounce back after Saturday’s loss to Gunn and ultimately earned a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night.
With aggressive and relentless forechecking, physical play on both ends of the ice, and some great saves by LJ Bylow in net, the Bruins scraped out a "W" in the end.
Ben Taylor got the team going midway through the first with a bank shot off a defenseman from behind the goal line. The Bruins held that one goal lead into the second.
Kent then knotted the contest at one with a lucky bounce off Teddy Cooney’s calf, and the score held at 1-1 after two.
Michael Contino promised a goal tonight, and he came through with 9:17 left in the third, unassisted. But Kent answered right back with a breakaway goal with 7:31 on the clock to tie it at two.
The Lions called a timeout with 2:02 left, but they couldn’t handle the blue line/red line combination from Brunswick, and after a clean face off win in the defensive zone from Ryan Baxter to Teddy Cooney, Cooney skyrocketed a leading pass to a streaking Jack O’Connor. The junior forward finished the job with a highlight-reel-style, water-bottle-popping wrist shot to put the Bruins up with 38 seconds remaining.
The Bruins travel to Loomis next Wednesday in the last game before the holiday break.
