Bruins Earn Big Road 'W' at Kent

Brunswick earned its first victory against Kent since 2019 – the two teams almost always play competitive, one-goal games – as the Bruins gutted out a 5-4 win on Wednesday evening in northwestern Connecticut.

The Bruins jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the halfway mark of the contest, with senior Brendan Giles potting the tilt's first two tallies (one in the first and one early in the second) and junior Tucker Spiess notching the third to stake the visitors to a healthy advantage.

Kent didn't go away, however, and got right back in the game with two strikes just 30 seconds apart – 3-2 'Wick with 9:40 to go in the second.

Credit the Bruins for not lying down and letting the Lions tie things up, as senior D-man Cooper Cleaves scored the period's final goal – a big one, no doubt – to set the board at 4-2 after 36 minutes.

Of note, Brunswick killed off a five-minute major penalty in the second's final five minutes.

In the third, the Bruins had to go back to work on the PK and fight off a 5-on-3 before adding what seemed to be an insurance goal by Spiess with 8:56 to go. Kent answered, though, on the very next shift to make it 5-3 with 8:46 left.

Things became a bit "circusy" from there, as the whistles kept blowing and the Bruins were sent to the box two more times. Kent capitalized and closed it to 5-4 with two minutes on the clock and the Bruins ultimately went back on the kill again before time finally ran out.

Giles earned the POG with two goals, five SOG, and four blocks.

Westy next. Saturday at 2 p.m. in Simsbury.
