JV1 Soccer Wins Fourth Game in a Row

'Wick came out strong and controlled the first half from beginning to end. In the 10th minute, John Guza from the right wing crossed the ball, which Johnny Backx played off his head to Luke Martinez, who was able to finish for our first goal. Five minutes later, Guza scored the second when T-P had difficulty clearing a ball, and he hit a one-timer into the side netting from about 15 yards out. Our last goal of the half started with a cross from Theron Case to Blake Levy, who took the ball out of the air and, on a half-volley, struck the ball solidly to beat the keeper again. 

 

Up three to zero, we expected the second half to go the same way as the first. But 'Wick came out flat, and we did not live up to the lead we had. Within 15 minutes, T-P leveled the score with three of their own and had us on our heels. It took us a while to find our groove after some defensive communication and positional errors. Thankfully, we were able to finish one last time. Backx played a beautiful ball through to Levy, who ran into the box and was fouled from behind, causing the referee to call a penalty kick. Gianfranco Fajardo stepped up and calmly beat the keeper to finish the game 4-3.
