Brunswick Soccer Upends Trinity-Pawling

Brunswick got back to the .500 mark for the season after a 5-2 win at Trinity-Pawling on Wednesday. 

The hosts got on the board first, capitalizing in the seventh minute on a long ball over the top that was knocked past sophomore GK Josh Katz.

After a number of goal-scoring opportunities for Brunswick were thwarted by great goalkeeping from T-P’s keeper, Kieran Raker ’24 finally tied the game on a nice finish in the 39th minute. Luke James ’24 took a pass down the right side from Patrick O’Donohue ’25 and laid a through ball off to Raker to finish.

It was a stalemate for the next 30 minutes of play, with both sides having chances to score but coming up empty thanks in part to more quality goalkeeping on both sides.

’Wick’s patience in the attacking phase paid off in the 69th minute, as Raker earned a foul in the box and converted the ensuing PK to make it 2-1.

The lead jumped to 4-1 between the 81st and 83rd minutes, with Raker and O’Donohue taking turns on scores and assists. O’Donohue got his first goal in a Brunswick uniform following a big clearance from junior midfielder John Buttafuoco near his own goal — Raker collected the ball and laid it off for O’Donohue to finish.

Raker’s hat trick came after O’Donohue fought through a crowd near midfield to win the ball and send him toward goal.

T-P fought for a second goal in the 89th minute, with O’Donohue then scoring his second of the day with some nice footwork and finishing in the 90th minute of play.

Katz (three saves) split duties in net with senior Phil Stabinsky (five saves), with Stabinsky called on to make two big saves: the first on a header across goal in the 57th minute to preserve a 1-1 score, then forcing away a high shot in the 80th minute to keep it at 3-1.

The Bruins will next take the pitch under the lights on Friday at Homecoming. Kickoff against St. Luke’s is set for 5:00 p.m. on Cosby Field.
