Bruins Earn First NEPSAC Class A Win

Fighting against torrential downpour throughout most of the match, Brunswick picked up its fourth win of the season on Saturday on Carroll Field (and first victory against a NEPSAC Class A school for the fall) by way of an 8-0 result against Kent.

While the visitors had some skillful players in their midfield and up front, the Brunswick attacking line was simply too much for their back-four. Between the 12th and 35th minutes of play, the Bruins scored five goals, four of which coming from senior Kieran Raker.

Raker's first tally began on a defensive stop on our end, which senior captain Tyler Quake collected near midfield and fed junior Patrick O'Donohue down the right side. O'Donohue cut through two Kent defenders and led Raker with a ball to the right of the goal, which he hit past the Kent GK.

Junior midfielder Theo Perkins scored the second tally in the 20th minute, one timing a ball laid off by senior defender Johnny Saunders following a deep throw-in from junior Will Higgs.

Just one minute later, Raker got his second, finishing off a corner kick from Saunders.

O'Donohue and Raker continued to work off each other, with O'Donohue earning his second and third assists through crafty footwork and solid passing for Raker to finish on goal in the 30th and 35th minutes. Midfielders Rowan Glanville '24 and Agustin Grether '25 also were credited with assists in the buildup to those two goals, respectively.

Taking a 5-0 lead into halftime, ’Wick gave more players impactful minutes. Senior attacker Ben Matitia did his best CR7 impression and converted a brilliant free kick from 30 yards out, burying the ball in the top right corner of the net (60th minute).

Junior defender Whim Nook and senior forward Luke James scored the last two goals of the day, Nook’s going unassisted in the 62nd minute and James’ on a nice feed from John Buttafuco '25 in the 73rd.

Sophomore Josh Katz earned his second consecutive full-game shutout, making three saves on the day and being tasked to clear a number of dangerous through balls with his feet throughout the match.

Aside, with the efforts of our squad in school on Friday and with parent support yesterday, the team raised nearly $1500 in memory of Grace Warne as part of our "Coaches vs Cancer" event.
