Cardinal Kung had a very much improved and much stronger team than we expected. 'Wick scored first late in the first half. Carter Bagaria had a nice touch to lift the ball over the keeper’s head for his first goal of the season. Unfortunately, Kung had a quick response of its own to tie it up 1-1 going into halftime.
In the 10th minute of the second half, again, we scored first. Ben Taylor was the workhorse who dribbled around two defenders (put one on the ground) and laid a ball off for an easy finish away from the keeper from Blake Levy. Kung had a response for this one too, scoring within minutes of us to make it 2-2. Then, halfway through the second, we scooped up a poorly cleared ball in the middle of the field. Johnny Backx found Blake Levy, who then assisted Taylor with a lovely finish around the keeper by the post to go up 3-2.
That was how the game finished, but Cardinal Kung did not let up. Late in the game, they had a few chances from set pieces but luckily our defense stepped up in big ways today. We ended up with 13 able bodies as we counted up to six injured, due mostly to cramps and bruises. Kudos to the last unit, which held the fort and was able to fight tooth and nail to keep the 3-2 lead: 1 Nook, 2 Gazal, 3 Ross-Wiley, 4 Boardman, 5 Modi, 6 Taylor, 7 Saad/Chiapetta, 8 Horton, 10 Dyson, 9 Levy, 11 Stabinsky/Bagaria.
