Brunswick JV1 Falls to Deerfield in a High-Quality Match
A good showing for JV1 Wick at Deerfield this past Saturday. Unfortunately, our inexperience and absences in key positions showed against a strong opponent. 'Wick played better than the score shows. Deerfield opened the scoreboard with a give-and-go, beating the right side of our defense and finishing the play with a precise shot on goal.
At 1-0, it was a close game, and 'Wick had chances to equalize. Two Deerfield goals at the end of the first half decided the game, and we went into halftime with an insurmountable 3-0 deficit. Our players competed well and stayed in the game until the very end. But overall Deerfield was well-organized in defense and very efficient finishing plays up front.
Special kudos to freshman Chase Nook, who stepped in as a goalie due to the absence of our two keepers. He did a fantastic job on goal. Playing under difficult conditions in a very wet and slippery grass, Chase had several outstanding saves -- well done!
