The 3rds soccer team had its opening game on the road against Avon Old Farms on Wednesday afternoon, coming away with a 9-0 win.
The boys took to the field and within minutes, the scoring was opened up by Owen Day, as he placed one forcefully into the net in the 4th minute. The Bruins were swarming the penalty area and the goals began to come fast and furious, as 'Wick saw tallies from MacCutcheon, Daniel, Levy, Stemerman, and Triggiani before the half was over.
Halftime saw some adjustments and the Bruins recalibrated and played a more conservative second. Still, balls made their way to the back of the Avon net and Wu, Day, and Gingold all finished.
There was incredibly solid play from all the guys on the squad. Special shoutouts must go to the defense of Sethi, Lopez, Petrini, Hash, Burke, and Gregory – each of whom had a fine game with no mistakes on the ball.
Konzerowsky proved he meant business in the midfield, and Diaz-Matos made his soccer debut, where he was a controlling force in the midfield. Pedlow and Bartizek showed that they have tremendous ball skills and will be key to the success of this team.
Thirds will be back in action next week against a very formidable Taft, as the team heads to Watertown on Wednesday, September 27.
