'Wick and Northwood Skate to Tie, Huskies Take Title in Shootout

After 50 minutes of fast-paced, entertaining prep hockey, Brunswick and Northwood stood even at two goals apiece — forcing a fairly anti-climactic shootout (won by the Huskies, 2-1, in four rounds) to decide the champion of the St. Sebastian’s Tournament on Sunday in Needham, Mass.

The result will go down as a tie in the record books per NEPSAC Holiday Tournament rules.

Brunswick held the better of the play in this one — but was forced to come from behind twice in regulation, as junior d-man Lucas St. Louis tied things at one before the first intermission and sophomore Casey Quinson knotted the contest at two with three minutes to go in the game (on the very next shift after Northwood had taken the lead).

Senior alternate-captain John Burdett, who earned admission and will play collegiately at Middlebury next year, picked up an assist on the equalizer.

The Bruins had a few good looks in overtime but couldn’t seal the deal before the shootout determined the winner.

At 5-2-1 on the young season — after eight tough games on the road — ’Wick sits in good position heading into the Christmas break.

Back at it at Belmont Hill on December 28.
