Brunswick completed the weekend sweep at the Exeter Invitational, defeating the host school (for the first time in program history) by a score of 4-0 in front of a large crowd in New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.
The game was scoreless after two periods despite the Bruins carrying the offensive-zone advantage and holding a 32-13 shot margin after 40 minutes of action. So the message was simple: Stick with it and keep going to the net. Get a greasy one.
It worked.
Brendan Giles broke the seal on the 36th Brunswick shot of the day (although nobody would describe it as “greasy”) and then the sophomore streaked down the wing and fed junior Eli Friedman for a SHG at the 10:50 mark of the third.
Sophomore Sean Gibbons added the first of his ’Wick career and junior co-captain Hank Cleaves put things away with an ENG.
The defensive group — seniors John Burdett and Maxime Sauvé, along with juniors Sloan Farmer, Lucas St. Louis, Niko Cadoret, and Collin Eschricht — held the fort in front of junior goaltender Brendan Holahan, who calmly turned aside all 22 Exeter shots.
Feels good to be heading home sitting at 3-0 with Kent and Westy on the slate this week. The boys will have a day off tomorrow and get in a pre-game skate on Tuesday before heading up to play the Lions on Wednesday.
