Brunswick fell to Taft by a 5-1 margin on Saturday. The road loss drops the Bruins’ record to 0-1-1 on the season. Brunswick returns to action with its home-opener on Cosby Field against Loomis Chaffee on Wednesday, September 18.
The Rhinos opened the scoring in the 25th minute on a well-placed free kick from just outside the box to take a 1-0 lead. The hosts added two more goals over the next seven minutes to take a 3-0 advantage into the intermission.
Five minutes into the second half, Brunswick trimmed the lead to 3-1 on a penalty kick goal by Aaryan Chinai. Gavin Foster set up the PK, passing the ball to Chinai inside the Taft box, as the Rhinos fouled Chinai to create the penalty-kick opportunity.
The Bruins would get no closer, as Taft added two more insurance goals, converting a penalty kick in the 55th minute and finishing the scoring in the 62nd minute for the 5-1 victory.
Brunswick starting goalie Eric Miendl played 80 minutes and made seven saves, as reserve keeper Andrew Breckenridge made a save in the final 10 minutes of scoreless action.
Taft outshot the Bruins by a 12-4 margin, while earning a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
