Brunswick opened the 2017 FAA campaign with a convincing 18-0 road win against St. Luke’s on Wednesday. While the win pushes the Bruins overall record to 2-0, and 1-0 in FAA play, the victory marked the 100th career win for seventh-year head coach Johnny Montanez (100-30-1).
Leading 1-0, the Bruins added four more runs in the third inning, capped by a two-run homer by Aaron Sabato.
Holding a 5-0 advantage, Brunswick added a pair of runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Ethan Hynes, while adding a single run in the fifth inning.
In the top of the seventh, the Bruins blew open an 8-0 game with 10 runs in the final frame. Brunswick sent 15 batters to the plate in the inning, collecting four walks, four singles, and a double. Jake Hyde collected two run-scoring singles in the inning, while Bobby Carangelo added a two-RBI single and J.D. Sparks chipped in with an RBI single. Joseph Henry added a two-run double to highlight the 10-run inning.
Charlie Sealy (1-0) picked up the win for the Bruins. The righty hurler notched up six strikeouts without surrendering a walk, while scattering a pair of hits. Nick Mosher and Mike Beninati each added a scoreless run in relief for Brunswick.
Three Bruins had multiple hits in the game, including Hyde’s two singles. Trystan Sarcone finished with three hits, including a double, while scoring five runs. Sabato added a single with his home run, as the slugger drew three walks while scoring four times for Brunswick.
On the day, the Bruins collected 13 hits and a dozen walks.
The Bruins return to action with a home FAA contest against RCDS on Friday, April 7.
