The Bruins took four doubles teams to compete at the George C. Shafer Doubles Invitational this weekend and emerged victorious in each of the flights.
Initially having set the doubles pairings with the team's #2 and #3 unavailable, on the day before the team was set to travel our #4 opted out with an injury, so the Bruins were forced to reshuffle and create fresh doubles pairings.
All matches would be 8-game pro sets with no-ad scoring.
The pairings for each draw were: #1 Evan Lee / Santos Gunningham #2 Edward Nagler / Johnny Riehl #3 Tucker Maclean / Spencer Segura #4 Kai Le / Jack Sieg
After the first day of competition, each of the teams won two matches to advance to the semi-finals. The #4 team produced a crucial result after being down 4-7 match point in the first round to come back to win in a tie break.
On the second day of competition, the Brunswick teams had all found their groove and created great on-court chemistry with their respective partners. The communication, teamwork, and execution of shots were all on a different level relative to their first round matches. They all won their morning semi-finals, and took the court after lunch to compete in all four finals.
At the end of the tournament, it was an unprecedented sweep of the tournament for Brunswick and the boys represented their school with excellent sportsmanship and performance.
