Brunswick broke a scoreless tie with 11 minutes to play, as Ben Powers buried the eventual game-winner for the Bruins on Saturday. The road win evens the season record for Brunswick at 3-3-2.
Powers nearly made it a 1-0 game early in the contest, but the Kent keeper turned the shot away in the 19th minute of play.
The Bruins kept the pressure on early in the scoreless second half, missing on a pair of solid scoring chances, including a shot that hit the Kent crossbar in the 63rd minute of play.
A minute before the Powers goal, Jack Withstandley drew a foul in the box on a corner kick. Harry Barringer took the resulting penalty kick, but his shot banged off the corner post, top right.
In the 79th minute, Brunswick goalie Eric Meindl played a long arching ball into the Kent six-yard box. Neither team gained possession, until Powers confidently stepped up and buried the decisive shot in the back of the net.
The remaining 11 minutes were incredibly defensive for Brunswick, as Meindl (five saves) worked hard cleaning up a handful of crosses, while Barringer possessed the ball and worked the clock on the Bruins’ attacking third of the pitch.
The Bruins return to action on Wednesday, October 10, with a home game against Trinity-Pawling.
