Brunswick sent its sailing contingent to compete for the Phebe Corckran King Memorial Trophy on the waters off of Annapolis, Maryland. At the end of the two-day weekend event that finished on May 13, the Bruins were 15th out of 18 teams from the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes regions.
In the 13 races in the A Division, Will George skippered with Carlos Flores for the first four races in unfamiliar CFJ-class boats, as George Coyle skipper for the next two races. In the final two Saturday races, Coyle skippered and Will George was crew. On Sunday, Will George returned to work with Flores for the remaining races in 420-class boats. Over the 13-race event, the Bruins’ A Division entry notched three top-10 finishes, garnering 162 team points.
In the B Division, Leyton Borcherding skippered with Ryan Heinzerling. The duo finished the first day in fifth place in the 420-class races, behind a quartet of teams with local knowledge of the water. After day two, using the CFJ-class boats, the tandem finished seventh overall with 111 points. Overall, the B Division Bruins collected six top-five results.
