Baseball Rolls Past Horace Mann for 13th Win

Brunswick picked up a non-league win against Horace Mann on Saturday, topping the Lions in the regular-season home finale, 10-3. With just six singles, the Bruins’ offense was aided by 14 walks from Horace Mann pitchers, as the Brunswick squad improves to 13-5 overall.

Brunswick opened the bottom of the first inning with three-straight singles that sparked a four-run inning. Marc McGuire led off with a single and moved to third on a one-bagger by Trystan Sarcone. Aaron Sabato followed with an RBI single that scored McGuire. An RBI groundout by Aidan Redahan plated Sarcone, as an infield error later allowed Sabato to score. JD Sparks collected the fourth single in the inning that scored the fourth run of the frame.

Holding a 4-1 lead, Brunswick tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning. After Sarcone drew a lead-off walk and later stole second base, Sabato drove in Sarcone for a 5-1 advantage. Sabato then stole a pair of bases, before Redahan walked. A double-steal saw Sabato score from third as Redahan reached second base safely. Gordon Kamer followed with an RBI single that drove in Redahan for a 7-1 advantage. Later, Kamer added the final run in the frame, scoring from third base on a balk by the Horace Mann pitcher.

Leading 8-3, the Bruins added solo runs on a bases-loaded walk in the fifth and sixth innings, as Brunswick went on to win by a 10-3 margin.

Joseph Henry (3-2) earned the win for the Bruins, tossing 4.0 innings, striking out six and allowing one unearned run. Cole Mascolo went 2.0 innings in relief, whiffing two batters and allowing two unearned runs. Trystan Sarcone pitched a crisp, 1-2-3 seventh inning for Brunswick, striking out two batters.

Sabato collected two singles and drove in two runs, as Redahan also collected two RBI for the Bruins.

Brunswick wraps up the regular season with a pair of FAA road contests, as the Bruins travel to Hopkins on Tuesday, May 8, and wrap up the season at Greens Farms on Friday, May 11. Following the regular season, the Bruins will play in the upcoming FAA Tournament beginning the following week. Seedings for the tourney are yet to be determined.
