Baseball Falls to King on Senior Day

Brunswick dropped a key FAA contest to King on Friday, 7-3. The home loss on Senior Day sets the Bruins’ overall record at 12-5 and 8-2 in league play. The Vikings, with a 10-0 FAA mark (11-1 overall), clinched the regular season title with two conference games left to play. Brunswick, with two league setbacks to King, currently holds second place in the standings ahead of the league tournament later this month.

 

King built a 2-0 lead after scoring single runs in the first and second innings.

 

The Bruins countered with solo runs in the home half of the second and third innings. Jake Hyde plated a run in the second inning, as Aaron Sabato added an RBI on a two-out infield single in the third inning.

 

King broke the 2-2 tie in the fifth inning on a solo homer.

 

Leading 3-2, the Vikings took command by scoring four runs in the sixth inning. Another King solo blast opened the scoring, as the visitors later added three more runs in the frame for a 7-2 lead.

 

The Bruins got a run back in the bottom of the sixth, as Sabato, who singled earlier in the inning, scored from third base after a pick-off throw from the catcher sailed into left field.

 

Six Bruins collected singles, as Sabato led the team with two one-baggers in three plate appearances. Trystan Sarcone, Marc McGuire, Aidan Redahan, Jake Hyde, and James Sassi were the other five Brunswick batters with hits in the game.

 

Brunswick used four different pitchers in the game. Starter Jake Hyde went 4.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and collecting three strikeouts. Luke Fisher (1-1) was the pitcher of record, allowing three earned runs in 1.2 innings in relief of Hyde. Liam Benjamin followed, throwing 0.2 innings and allowing two earned runs, as Sabato pitched the final 0.2 innings and struck out one batter.
