Baseball Rolls Past St. Luke’s

Brunswick needed only five innings to top FAA foe St. Luke’s on Tuesday, beating the Storm 11-1. The Bruins (9-3, 6-1) continue league play, hosting RCDS on Friday, April 27.

Brunswick collected just eight hits on the day, as the Storm pitchers had trouble with control, walked seven batters, and hit five more Bruins over five innings.

Trystan Sarcone had a nice day at the plate, going 2-2 with a three-run double and a total of five RBI. Aaron Sabato notched the other extra-base hit for Brunswick, blasting a no-doubt, tape-measure solo homer in the bottom of the fifth. The four-bagger was Sabato’s team-leading fourth homer of the season.

After St. Luke’s scored an unearned run in the top of the first, the Bruins scored a pair of runs in both the first and second innings. Leading 4-1, Brunswick tacked on three runs in the third inning on Sarcone’s three-run double.

The Bruins ended the game in the fifth, as the hosts scored four more runs to build a 10-run lead.

In the decisive fifth, Sabato scored the first run on the homer, as a two-out error later in the inning allowed another run to score. With Brunswick holding a 10-1 lead, Jack Griffin ended the game with an RBI single.

Marc McGuire picked up a pair of singles and scored three runs, while Sabato and Luke Fisher each collected two RBI.

Brunswick starter JD Sparks (3-0) pitched all five innings to pick up his team-leading third win. The righty hurler allowed two hits and an unearned run, while striking out four batters.
