Brunswick dropped a non-league game to Poly Prep in Brooklyn on Thursday, 4-1. The Bruins (6-3) return to FAA action on Friday, April 20, hosting Greens Farms.
Poly Prep got on the board in the first inning, scoring an unearned run off Brunswick starter Reed Mascolo.
In the third inning, with the Bruins trailing 1-0, Joseph Henry relieved Mascolo.
Brunswick tied the game in the top of the fourth on an infield single by Jake Hyde. The two-out hit drove in Aaron Sabato from third base, as Sabato tripled earlier in the inning.
Poly Prep answered in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs to regain the lead, 3-1. The Blue Devils scored both runs during a two-out rally. Following a single to right, Poly Prep drew two straight walks to load the bases. A third free-pass allowed one run to score, as an infield error allowed the second run to cross the plate.
The Blue Devils added an insurance run in the fifth, capping the scoring at 4-1.
Henry (1-2) took the loss, tossing 4.0 innings in relief. Henry struck out three batters, while allowing three runs (two earned). Mascolo pitch the first two innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out one Blue Devil.
Sabato collected two hits, including a triple and scored a run, while Hyde and JD Sparks each added a single for the Bruins’ four hits.
