Baseball Drops League Game at King

Brunswick fell behind in the first inning at King and could not catch the Vikings, losing the Tuesday FAA contest, 16-9. The league setback gives the Bruins a 2-1 FAA mark and an overall record of 3-2.

 

Brunswick jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. After a lead-off triple by Aidan Redahan, Trystan Sacrone followed with a crisp RBI single to left, as Redahan scored on the play. Aaron Sabato followed with a two-run homer to left field for a 3-0 lead.

 

Brunswick’s lead disappeared in the bottom of the frame, as King scored five runs on four hits to take a 5-3 lead.

 

Trailing 7-3 in the third inning, the Bruins plated two runs, cutting the deficit to 7-5. James Sassi knocked in a run with a sac-fly to center, as Luke Fisher picked up an RBI with a two-out single later in the inning.

 

Facing a 10-5 hole in the fifth inning, Brunswick scored three runs, trimming the King lead to two runs. The Bruins opened the frame with four straight singles, including run-scoring hits by Sassi and Jake Hyde. Brunswick made it a 10-8 contest when Hyde scored from third on a first-and-third double-steal with two outs.

 

King countered in the home half of the of the fifth with six runs to take a commanding 16-8 lead.

 

The Bruins added a final run in the seventh on a run-scoring sacrifice fly to left by Fisher that scored Sassi from third.

 

Five Bruins had two hits apiece, as Sassi and Sabato went 2-3 with two RBI each. Sabato’s homer was his first of the season. Hyde and Sarcone picked up a pair of singles, while Redahan finished with a single and a triple.

 

Brunswick starting pitcher Reed Mascolo took the loss, allowing eight runs, seven earned, over 3.1 innings of work while striking out two Vikings. Cole Mascolo threw 1.1 innings in relief, giving up eight runs, all earned, with two punch-outs. Hyde worked the final 1.1 innings for Brunswick, picking up a strikeout without allowing a run.
