Brunswick picked up a key FAA win on Friday, besting RCDS 7-1. The Bruins collected six hits, including five for extra-bases. The league win bumps the Bruins’ overall mark to 2-1 and 2-0 in FAA play.
After collecting solo runs in the first and second innings without generating a hit, Brunswick made it a 3-1 game in the third inning on a one-out RBI double by Jake Hyde. Hyde plated Aaron Sabato from second after Sabato led off the frame with a two-bagger to left field.
Brunswick added two more runs in the top of the fourth with a two-out rally. Once again, the Bruins scored without a base hit. JD Sparks led off the inning getting hit by a pitch and stole two bases before Aidan Redahan walked. With Brunswick baserunners on first and third, a double steal allowed Sparks to score from third, while Redahan reached second base.
Later in the inning with Brunswick owning a 4-1 lead and with first base open, the Wildcats decided to intentionally walk Aaron Sabato to face James Sassi with two outs. During Sassi’s at-bat, Redahan stole third and scored on a fielding error on the play, giving the Bruins a 5-1 lead.
In the seventh, Brunswick tacked on two more runs to build a 7-1 lead over the hosts. Sabato led off with a triple to centerfield and was knocked home on a Sassi single to left. Following a pair of walks to load the bases, Sassi scored on an infield error on a ball put into play by Jack Griffin.
Brunswick starting pitcher Joseph Henry (1-0) picked up the win, scattering a pair of hits over 4.0 innings. Henry, who added a double from the plate, allowed one earned run and struck-out seven Wildcats. Luke Fisher followed Henry with 2.0 innings of scoreless work on the mound, as JD Sparks finished the game with a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two batters.
Sabato went 2-3 from the plate with a double and a triple and scored three runs, while Hyde went 2-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
Brunswick returns to action on Saturday, April 7, facing Fieldston on the road.
