Hockey Upsets 10th-Ranked Williston Northampton

Despite twice trailing by two goals against #10 Williston Northampton, Brunswick battled back to top the Wildcats at Hartong Rink on Saturday, 4-3. The victory boosts the Bruins’ overall record to 10-8-3, as Brunswick returns to action on Monday, January 29, hosting top-ranked Salisbury (14-0-1) at 5:00 p.m.

 

The Wildcats (10-6-2) built a 2-0 lead by the 13:32 mark of the first period, before the Bruins countered with a power-play tally with under two minutes left. Charles Shaffer notched his 10^th goal of the season for Brunswick, cutting the hosts’ deficit to one goal.

 

Williston netted a goal just 83 seconds into the second period to bump its lead back to two goals.

 

Trailing 2-1, Brunswick rallied off a pair of power-play goals to tie the game at 7:40, and later took the lead on an even-strength marker at 8:46 in the second period.

 

Christian LeSueur netted his team-leading 11^th goal on the first Brunswick power-play at 6:30, while Tom Richter (2^nd goal) tied the game at 2-2, just 70 seconds later during a man-advantage.

 

The Bruins continued the second period scoring run, as Ryan St. Louis netted his first Brunswick goal on a rebound shot at 8:46, giving the Bruins a 3-2 advantage.

 

Neither team would score during a penalty-marred third period, as Brunswick held on for the one-goal victory.

 

Brunswick goalie Dan Dachille finished the day with 25 saves, including some vital stops in the third period to preserve the win.
