Basketball Drops Opener

Brunswick fell to Taft in a non-league road game on Wednesday, 73-38. In their season-opener, the Bruins (0-1) held their own against the bigger front court of the Rhinos in the early going before the hosts pulled away in the second half.
 
In the first half, Brunswick played the hosts close before Taft earned some breathing room and took a 34-22 lead into the intermission.
 
Trailing by 12 to start the second half, the Bruins could not dent the Rhinos’ double-digit lead, as Taft eventually pulled away for the 73-38 win.
 
For the game, Taft shot exceptionally well from the floor, connecting on 24-38 field goal attempts (.623), while knocking down 7-14 shots from behind the arc. The Bruins connected on just 14-50 shots overall, hitting 3-17 from long distance. Taft held a slight rebounding advantage, besting the Bruins by a 30-24 margin.
 
Brunswick’s Khari Wilson led the Bruins with 14 points on 5-12 shooting from the field, including a three-pointer and three free throws. Wilson added four rebounds and a steal.
 
Jack Molloy chipped in eight points and a team-best five rebounds for the Bruins, while Graham Pierce added eight points with two three-pointers and four boards.
 
Brunswick returns to action with another non-league contest at Millbrook on Wednesday, December 6.
