Ski Team: Season Preview

The Brunswick alpine ski team, heading into its third season of competition, is poised to have another strong run during the 2017-18 campaign. Head coach Alex Blum, the coach of the team since the program’s inception in 2015, owns a 45-10 record leading the Bruins on the slopes.

Last year, Brunswick finished second overall in the competitive CISL with a record of 27-4. Following a strong season on the slopes of Mt. Southington, the Bruins took on the New England prep schools, earning second place in the NEPSAC Class B Ski Championships, held at Okemo Mountain in Vermont.

Joining coach Blum for a third season is assistant coach Shane Kirsch. Co-captains Ethan Hynes and Ian Murray, both All-State honorees a year ago, return to lead the Bruins this winter.

With a roster of 10 skiers this season, including several with extensive racing experience, the expectations to compete and place high in every CISL race and the NEPSAC Championship have grown.

It will be a full team effort this year according to Blum.

“Having our other boys, who are all strong advanced skiers, strengthen their racing skills to provide the depth we need will be the key to our team success this season,” Blum said.

The team will continue training into the December break, as the CISL racing season at Mt. Southington begins in January.
