Second Quarter Run Keys Lacrosse Victory

Using a seven-goal second quarter run, Brunswick pulled away from host Kent on Wednesday, topping the Lions 17-4 in a NEW1 Conference game. The win improves the #14 Bruins to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Brunswick stays on the road and in conference for its next game, as the Bruins head to Loomis Chaffee on Saturday, April 9.
 
Leading 3-1 after the first quarter, Brunswick went on its decisive seven-goal run to begin the second quarter.
 
Jimmy Heidt netted a hat trick to open the frame for the Bruins, starting with an unassisted goal at 11:35. Christian Ronda and Xander Dickson added helpers to the next two Heidt tallies for a 6-1 Brunswick advantage at 9:06.
 
Griffin Gelinas pumped in the next two goals for Brunswick, before Dickson scored a goal on a Greyson Wolfram assist at 6:41. The duo exchanged roles just over two minutes later when Wolfram finished off a Dickson helper at 4:38 to give the visitors a 10-1 lead.
 
Following a pair of Kent goals to close out the half, the teams exchanged tallies to open the third quarter. Brunswick tacked on three more markers, including Heidt’s fourth goal, as the Bruins took a 14-4 lead after three quarters.
 
Brunswick accounted for all three goals in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring at 17-4.
 
Christian Barnard collected his first win in goal for the Bruins, making three saves over the first three quarters, while allowing four goals. Will Prout played a clean fourth quarter in relief of Barnard, making three saves.
 
The Bruins won 15/22 face-offs, highlighted by Ben Shapiro’s 10/11 performance. Shapiro also led the Bruins with four groundballs, while John Fox, Owen Matthews, and Heidt each picked up three rollers apiece.
