Brunswick dropped its first game of the season, falling to Millbrook 3-2 at the Brooks-Pingree Holiday Tournament on Saturday. In a 2-2 game late in the third period, the Mustangs converted a penalty shot with thirty seconds left to play to secure the one-goal victory. The 3-2 set back was the first loss on the season for the Bruins (4-1-0).
While Millbrook (4-0-2) never trailed in the game, the 2-2 contest seemed destined for overtime.
However, in the final minute of the game, a Bruin miscue in the neutral zone allowed a Millbrook player to take the puck right to the Brunswick goal. On the play, the Mustang skater was taken down by a Brunswick defenseman, creating the penalty shot opportunity.
On the penalty shot, Brunswick goalie Dan Dachille got a piece of the short-side attempt, but the puck found its way into the back of net for the eventual game-winner.
Earlier in the game, Brunswick’s Nick Boardman netted a goal on a nice drive wide to the net to tie the game at one apiece late in the first period.
Trailing 2-1 in the third period, Christian LeSueur scored on a set faceoff play with six minutes left, tying the game at 2-2.
Dachille, making his Brunswick debut in goal, made 26 saves in the contest.
The Bruins return to the rink later in the day to play New Hampton at 5:00 p.m.
