Four Lacrosse Players Awarded NCAA National Letter of Intent

In recognition of their athletic prowess, four senior Brunswick student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) on Wednesday afternoon. All four students are committing to play NCAA Division I lacrosse in return for athletic-scholarship aid.

The quartet of Alexander Buckanavage (University of Michigan), Spencer Decker (University of Vermont), John Fox (University of Virginia) and Sean Morris (University of North Carolina) has been coached by David Bruce since their freshman year.

Buckanavage, the lone attackman of the group, has amassed 87 goals and 56 assists (143 points) over three seasons at Brunswick. The Ridgefield, Conn., native decided on the University of Michigan and will join former Bruins Peter Khoury ’13 and Tommy Heidt ’14 on the Wolverines roster next year. Buckanavage is also a captain of the varsity soccer team.

Decker, from Stamford, heads to the University of Vermont, where he will reconnect with four former Bruins: Jack Knight ’15, Charlie Cobb ’15, Ryan Stafford ’16, and Matt Sealy ’16. The speedy midfielder has scored a pair of goals, added four assists, and scooped up 26 groundballs to date in his high-school career. Decker is also a three-year member of the varsity football team.

Fox, a two-time captain for the Bruins, is heading to the University of Virginia of the ACC. Fox will team up with another former Bruin, Cameron Stafford ’14. The New Canaan resident has collected a staggering 204 groundballs heading into his final campaign, while adding 42 points (22 goals, 20 assists) from his midfield position. Fox is also a two-time captain of the football team.

Morris, another Stamford resident, chose the University of North Carolina, the 2016 NCAA Champions in lacrosse. The midfielder and co-captain has amassed 50 career points (42 goals, eight assists) through his junior campaign at Brunswick. Morris is also a captain of the football team.

Over the last three seasons, the four Bruins have helped Brunswick to an impressive 44-10 record (15-3, 14-4, 15-3), including a league title in 2014.
