Golf Team Stays Unbeaten

The Brunswick varsity golf team defeated a traditionally solid Taft team, 5-2, on a cold and drizzly Wednesday afternoon at Greenwich Country Club – sweeping through the first five matches for the victory.

Senior captain James O'Connor started the winning streak with a dominating 5&4 victory at the number-two spot. Jack Chung ended his match on the 7th green with a solid 4&2 win at number three. Will Harned's match at the number-one spot was tied on the 8th tee, but the senior captain birdied the club’s signature hole and won his match 2-up.

The fourth match reached the 8th green, where Henry Graham polished off his opponent 2&1. The fifth (Charlie Perkins) and sixth (Mac Ahern) matches both reached the 9th hole – Perkins prevailed with a 1-up win but Ahern fell short with a 2-down loss.

The last match at number seven produced some of the best golf of the day. Leo Simon played very well at even par, yet lost 3&2 to his Taft opponent, who was 2-under par at the time the match ended.

The team travels north to take on Kent on Saturday at Candlewood Valley Country Club.
