Bruins Fall to AOF in Rain-Shortened Game

The varsity baseball team traveled to Hartford to play a talented Avon Old Farms team at Dunkin' Park, ultimately falling by a score of 3-2 in a game that was unfortunately called in the sixth inning due to weather conditions.

Michael Yeager got the start for the Bruins and provided three strong innings of work – keeping the Avon hitters off balance and holding them to minimal runs. Jerry Guzman relieved him and threw two scoreless innings.

The Brunswick offense struck first, as the Bruins put up two runs in the second inning. Carlo Tucci earned a walk and was driven in by a two-out double to left center by Connor Jones. Wim Nook then singled for the second time of the game, bringing around Jones to score. This made the game 2-0.

Avon answered right back – tying things up in the bottom half of the inning. And the Winged Beavers eventually manufactured one more run in the third.

From there, it was a defensive battle: pitchers threw strikes and both teams made many outstanding plays, getting their teams off the field.

The rain started to pick up in the sixth inning and the game was called due to field conditions. It was an unfortunate ending to such a well played game on both sides.

Nonetheless, it was an amazing experience for Brunswick’s baseball team, as they had the chance to play in a minor league park against one of the top prep school programs in New England.

Next up, the Bruins look to continue their hot streak in the FAA, as they face off against Greens Farms Academy on Saturday. Jackson Shepelsky will be on the mound.
