Swimmers Victorious in First Meet

Last year, with a young, small team, Brunswick learned the impact that hard work and dedication can have on championship season performance. This year, adding 10 new freshmen and one new sophomore to the team adds much-needed depth to a strong core of returning athletes from the 2022-2023 season. Wednesday afternoon was the trial by fire for those 11 new swimmers (of a team of 25), and they stepped up, raced, and didn’t disappoint. Six of those 11 new swimmers (five of the freshmen and one sophomore) earned spots in the Top 25 All-Time swims for Brunswick with their individual performances. 

 

The Bruins won their first meet of the season tonight against FAA rival and Division III NEPSAC Champions Hamden Hall. 'Wick won 11 of 12 events, and in 10 of those events, they placed first and second or swept first through third. 

 

This year may be the year of the freshman (40% of the team), and Brunswick is going to rely on them every meet. On Wednesday, they didn't disappoint, and they stepped up and contributed to a very balanced Brunswick attack. While the four seniors are certainly outnumbered by the underclassmen, they led the way in the pool and on the deck.  

 

Returning New England Champions Ryan Ohl and Ben Wu combined to help Brunswick win five events. Andrew Tu and JP Lavin rallied the troops and showed the new swimmers what it means to be a Bruin swimmer. And, the fans were treated to some fun on the diving board too. Brunswick Middle Schooler Max Pacifico dove for the Bruins. Luckily, veteran Andrew Rodriguez was on the sideline teaching the freshmen how to cheer at a diving competition.  

 

Scoring was stopped for the meet after the 200FR relay, and the final score will go in the books as Brunswick 96 and Hamden Hall 74.

 

It was a good start to the season.
