After an emotional dedication to the late Brunswick baseball coach Tim Daly, the Bruins defeated Greenwich Country Day School in the semifinals of the FAA tournament, 8-0, in front of a big crowd on Edwards Campus.
Jackson Shepelsky was handed the ball with hopes to lead the Bruins to its seventh tournament final in 13 years, and the sophomore delivered a brilliant performance, striking out GCDS's first three batters and ending with six Ks in five innings with 63 pitches.
Brunswick scored a run in the first followed by a run in the second. Connor Jones led off in the fifth with a double, followed by a Player Crosby triple. In the sixth, a bases-clearing double by Alex Giannuzzi added three more and the Bruins added another off of a Boston Flannery single.
The Bruins will await their next opponent, the winner of the St. Luke's-Hamden Hall game scheduled for Tuesday, in the finals on Thursday. If Hamden Hall wins, Brunswick will be on the road, while if St. Luke's wins, 'Wick will host the championship.
