Bruins Outlast Knights on Cosby Field

In the final regular-season game of the year, the Bruins (12-3) faced off against their league rivals, the Salisbury Knights (11-3), and came away with a 18-15 win under the lights on Cosby Field on Friday night.
 

Last year, the Bruins and the Knights split their season matchups, with Salisbury winning in the regular season and the Bruins winning in the semifinals of the Prep Nationals postseason tournament.

Tomas Delgado opened up the scoring with a 14-yard step-down, fed by Leo Hoffman, finding the bottom right corner of the net. The Knights responded just 30 seconds later. Following an unforced turnover by the Bruins, the Knights capitalized for their second goal. Teddy Danforth broke the Knights' streak with an extra-man goal, assisted by Max Warden. The Knights outscored the Bruins 2-1 in the final seven minutes of the first quarter, giving them a 5-3 lead heading into the second.

The Bruins' offense exploded in the second quarter, scoring on nine of their 12 possessions. Delgado led the charge with four goals, while Hoffman contributed three goals of his own. Juniors Casey Quinson and Warden also joined the stat book with goals. Salisbury managed to put up three goals of its own in the quarter, but the Bruins held a 12-8 lead at halftime.

The start of the third quarter saw both defenses stand strong. Salisbury eventually broke a nearly four-minute scoring drought and followed it up with two more goals to pull within one of the Bruins, making the score 12-11. Hoffman and Hudson Hausmann each responded with goals for Brunswick, but the Knights found the back of the net with 12 seconds left in the quarter, cutting the Bruins' lead to two heading into the final quarter — 14-12.

The Knights wasted no time, scoring immediately from a fastbreak goal off the faceoff, narrowing the gap to 14-13. Salisbury converted on an extra-man possession a minute later, tying the game at 14. On the ensuing faceoff, Andrew Greenspan won the ball forward and fed a streaking Luke Michalik, whose bounced shot went over the net. However, Casey Quinson gathered the rebound, turned the corner, and scored.

Greenspan won the next faceoff as well, securing possession for the Bruins. Delgado capitalized on the possession with a 14-yard jump shot, giving Brunswick a two-goal lead at 16-14. Five minutes later, Hausmann extended the Bruins' lead with a 14-yard step-down goal during an extra-man opportunity. The Knights responded on the following possession, pulling within two, but that would be their last goal of the game. Hausmann sealed the victory with a final goal, leaving just a minute on the clock.

The Bruins will host Prep Nationals on Friday and Sunday, with matchups to be announced on Wednesday evening.
