Brunswick earned two wins and two second-place finishes in the four events at the Kent Invitational (formerly the Connecticut Championships). The sunny day on beautiful Lake Waramaug featured variable cross headwinds over the 1500m course.
In the 1st Varsity Eights race, Salisbury got out to an early lead over the six-boat field. Brunswick was the only crew that was able to stay within striking distance of Salisbury, the #1 ranked team in New England, as the top two boats pulled away from Kent in the body of the race. Hotchkiss, Simsbury, and Farmington trailed. At the finish line, Brunswick clocked in a bit over a length out of first place with open-water back to Kent and the rest of the field.
In the 2nd Varsity Eights race, Brunswick took second place as well. In this race which featured a strong headwind, a big Kent crew was able to pull through for the win while Brunswick held off Salisbury and the rest of the field.
In the 3rd Varsity Eights race, Brunswick led wire to wire. The Brunswick boat was able to demonstrate its best technique and stride out in front of the field to win by a large margin.
Similarly, in the 4th / Novice Eights race, Brunswick pulled away from their opponents early and won by a wide margin.
