'Wick Outlasts GCDS, Secures Top Seed

Brunswick defeated Greenwich Country Day, 77-72, on Wednesday evening to secure the No. 1 seed in next week’s FAA playoffs.

The Bruins jumped all over the Tigers in the first four minutes of play, building an 11-3 lead that included a Jon Sigurdsson up and under reverse layup and an Ethan Long three pointer. It then suddenly seemed as though Brunswick couldn’t buy a basket, missing several easy looks around the rim, while GCDS made a run and tied the game at 13 apiece. It was back and forth for the rest of the first half and Brunswick found themselves trailing 38-33 at the break.

The Tigers controlled the pace for the first five minutes of the second half, building a 10-point lead as the Bruins struggled to get stops defensively. Just when it seemed like GCDS might pull away, Brunswick dug deep and turned up the intensity, going on a 19-5 run to take a 61-57 lead with five minutes remaining. The Tigers remained within striking distance, but the Bruins came up with timely baskets down the stretch as Wyatt Triestman poured in 20 second half points and Ethan Long came up clutch at the free throw line repeatedly in the game's final minutes.

Triestman led Brunswick in scoring with 24. Ethan Long had 22 and Will Graves added 14.

Brunswick travels to Greens Farms on Thursday to close out the regular season.
