In front of a packed home court crowd, Brunswick beat Greenwich Country Day School by a score of 56-37 to earn a spot in Saturday’s FAA Championship game.
It was a sluggish start for both teams, going scoreless for the first three and half minutes of play, until Tristan Joseph made a hard baseline drive for a contested layup to kickstart the Bruins offense. After controlling much of the first half and taking a commanding 19-5 lead, the Bruins once again went cold and left the door open for a Tigers run in the final minutes, ultimately heading into the break leading 23-20.
The second half started with a bang as Jon Sigurdsson finished a transition dunk off of a great assist from Joseph. It was all Brunswick for the rest of regulation, smothering the Tigers with defensive pressure, scoring in transition, and getting easy points in the paint from Sigurdsson and Matty Augustine. With the game in hand, the Bruins emptied the bench with four minutes to play.
Joseph and Sigurdsson led the Bruins with 17 points each, but the score book doesn’t tell the whole story, as the game was a true team effort from start to finish.
Brunswick looks to capture its first FAA title in over a decade on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Dann Gym vs. St Luke’s.
