Brunswick and St. Luke’s gathered at center court for an emotional moment of silence in memory of Teddy Balkind prior to the Bruins falling to the Storm 63-54 in Dann Gym.
Unable to find their groove on offense or get consistent stops defensively, Brunswick found itself trailing by nine at the break, 32-23.
Just two minutes into the second half, junior guard Wyatt Triestman exited the game with an ankle injury and would not return. However the short-handed Bruins would not go out quietly.
They proceeded to mount a furious comeback highlighted by three three-point field goals from Tristan Joseph and Matty Augustine and an electric dunk in traffic from Joseph, sending the crowd into a frenzy and giving Brunswick a 47-45 lead.
The energy spent regaining the lead was ultimately unsustainable, as St. Luke’s outscored Brunswick 18-7 in the final four minutes of play to come out on top.
Joseph led all scorers with 21 points while Matty Augustine added 10 and Jon Sigurdsson had eight.
