Swimmers Win Third FAA Title in Four Years

Winning seven of 11 events at the FAA Championships, Brunswick swam away with the league crown on Saturday. The title is the third for the Bruins in the four-year history of the event.

Brunswick won the first four events (200-medley relay, 200-freestyle, 200-IM and 50-freestyle) to take a lead on the field of FAA teams. Max Meissner highlighted the four straight wins with a personal-best time of 1:43.12 in the 200-freestyle.

The Bruins' Patchy Mullen followed Meissner with a win in the 200-IM (1:58.96), as teammate Alex Hazlett took first in the 50-freestyle (21.72).

Following a win by Hopkins in the one-meter diving event, Brunswick’s Lucas Hodgson (52.68) and Mullen (52.93) finished one-two in the 100-butterfly.

Hopkins picked up a victory in the 100-free, as Michael O’Malley was fourth and Danny Taylor was fifth.

Apostolides gave the Bruins a win in the 500-free (4:52.45) to add to Brunswick’s point total with four events remaining.

In the 200-free relay, the Brunswick quartet of Marcus Hodgson, Mullen, O'Malley and Meissner took first place (1:27.81), more than 4.5 seconds faster than second-place Hopkins.

Peter Michalik followed with a second-place result for the Bruins in the 100-backstroke (57.28).

In the final individual race, Meissner (58.37) and Marcus Hodgson (1:02.06) finished two-three for Brunswick in the 100-breaststroke.

A disqualification in the 400-freestyle relay kept the Bruins from winning an eighth overall race along with setting a new pool record.

Brunswick will complete its season at the NEPSAC Division I Championships at Hotchkiss on March 7-8.
