Hockey Rolls to Victory

Brunswick netted four-straight goals to pull away from visiting Albany Academy on Wednesday, 6-1. The win set the Bruins’ overall record at 19-6-2 and avenges a 4-3 road setback to the Cadets back on February 7.

Brunswick, ranked eighth in the latest USHR.com weekly prep poll, took a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals by Michael Salandra. Salandra’s second goal, a power-play tally, was the junior’s 12 goal of the season.

Holding a 2-1 lead late in the second period, Matthew McGroarty’s goal with less than a minute in the frame gave the Bruins a two-goal cushion.

McGroarty opened the third period with another goal, giving the junior forward 16 goals on the year.

Brunswick closed out the contest with two more goals, as Jakub Teply’s team-leading 27th goal came on a 5-on-3 power-play near the midpoint of the third period. Connor Welsh (5th goal) capped the scoring with 8:00 left in the contest.
