Brunswick dropped its first match of the season, losing a 4-3 decision to unbeaten Cheshire Academy on Wednesday. The setback is the first for the Bruins (6-1), as the Cats improve to 6-0.
After dropping the doubles point, Brunswick tied the match at 1-1 with Edward Nagler’s dominating win at #6 singles (6-1, 6-0).
Aidan Reilly gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead with a 6-0, 6-4 win at #3 singles.
Cheshire tied the match at 2-2 with a win at #1 singles, as two of the three remaining matches extended to third-set super tiebreakers. The Cats picked up a win at #2 (4-6, 6-4, 10-3) to take a 3-2 lead, while Brunswick’s Lorenzo Gunningham posted a comeback win at #4 (3-6, 7-5, 10-4) to tie the contest at 3-3 with #5 singles left to determine the winner.
In the showdown at #5, Cheshire won the first set on a tie-breaker and took the second set to clinch the overall match, 4-3.
Brunswick returns to action at home against Masters on Monday, April 22.
