Brunswick opened the 2018-19 season with a 3-3 tie against Loomis Chaffee in Hartong Rink on Thursday night.
Brunswick (0-0-1) opened the game with a pair of goals in the first period. Matthew McGroarty started with a tally midway through the frame, and Michael Salandra made it a 2-0 contest on a goal with 5:36 left.
The visitors countered with three-straight goals in a five-minute span in the second period, building a 3-2 lead on the Bruins’ home ice.
The Pelicans (0-0-1) made it a 2-1 game with just under eight minutes left in the second period and tied the game at two three minutes later. With 2:58 left, Loomis added a shorthanded tally to take a 3-2 lead heading into the final frame.
The visitors held the one-goal advantage through most of the third period before Ryan St. Louis tied the contest with a goal in front of a crowded Loomis net with 1:55 left in regulation.
Neither team scored in the five-minute overtime session, as the squads skated to the handshake line deadlocked at 3-3.
