Brunswick broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth with a run, then added seven more runs in the final three innings for a commanding 8-0 win over Greens Farms on Friday. The Bruins finish the regular season with a 15-5 overall mark and a 10-2 record in the FAA.
Brunswick, the second seed in the FAA tourney, returns to action with a home game in the semifinal round on Wednesday, May 16.
After an RBI double by Jake Hyde in the fourth to open the scoring, the Bruins added two runs in the fifth. JD Sparks plated the first run on a sac-fly, as Ethan Hynes later scored from third base on a wild pitch to give Brunswick a 3-0 lead.
The Bruins tacked on two more runs in the sixth with RBI singles by James Sassi and Sparks.
Leading 5-0, Brunswick put the game out of reach, scoring three more runs in the seventh and final inning. In the frame, Aaron Sabato drove in his 17th RBI, tying for the team lead with Trystan Sarcone, as Jake Hyde and James Sassi also added an RBI.
Sarcone (1-0) tossed 3.2 innings and was credited for the win, as the lefty allowed one hit and whiffed seven batters. Hyde picked up his team-leading third save, closing out the final 3.1 innings, allowing three hits and striking out a trio of Dragons.
Eight Bruins had at least one hit, as Sassi (2 RBI) and Marc McGuire had two singles. Sabato went 2-3 with an RBI and raised his batting average to a team-best .552. Hyde went 2-4 from the dish with a double and two RBI, while Sparks also added two RBI along with a single for Brunswick.
The shut-out win was this sixth time the Bruins kept an opponent scoreless this season, as the Brunswick pitching staff own a 2.17 team ERA.
