Brunswick wrapped up the 2017 season with a 1-0 road win over Westminster on Saturday. The Bruins fifth shut-out victory evens their overall record at 8-8-1 in head coach Danny Simpson’s inaugural season.
Brunswick goalie Harry Barringer (five saves) kept the game scoreless in the first half, making an acrobatic stop on a breakaway by Westminster.
The ensuing corner kick by Westminster was defended and cleared by the Bruins. Building a counter-attack, Brunswick worked the ball into Westminster territory with a series of passes from Ryan Chinai to Henry Foster and on to Nick Boardman. Boardman finished the run, making one move in front of the Westminster goal and beating the keeper top-right in the 24th minute of action. The goal was Boardman's team-leading 14th on the season.
Leading 1-0 in the second half, the Bruins missed on a few chances to extend their lead before Westminster made it interesting in the final 90 seconds of action.
With the clock winding down, Brunswick battled off a pair of corner kicks. Boardman used a kick save on the first corner, as Barringer made another excellent save on the second corner kick to preserve the win.
